This hands-on position is responsible for having thorough knowledge and understanding of all phases of aircraft exterior refurbishment, paint scheme and design layout. The mechanical understanding and ability to repair all paint equipment.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Paint Technician Crew Chief is responsible for daily management of assigned crews to oversee the safe and proper handling of paint refurbishment of aircraft. This includes but not limited to the policies and laws of Elliott Aviation, OSHA, FAA and the EPA.
  • Maintain paperwork as required on a daily basis; (Metrics for goal, workorder binders, production stamp offs, card travels, checklist, ETC)
  • Monitor daily, man-hours expended vs. goal; percentage of completion vs. days passed and communicate results to team members
  • Communicate with supervisor, any change in work-scope and/or quote amount above and beyond the original work-scope
  • Interface with Quality Control for hidden damage inspections, checklist, return to service and any other items as needed.
  • Review W.O. proofs for proper placement of squawks and times to proper items and parts to proper squawks on a daily basis & communicate results to team members
  • Ensure that the department supervisor and trainer and notified of any technician needing training.
  • Ensure that all components, parts, accessories, and materials used are acceptable as per industry methods, techniques and practices and in compliance with all applicable FAR’s.  Any defects or un-airworthy condition in accordance with FAR 145.63 is reported immediately to the Supervisor, Quality control or the Department Manager.
  • Ensure that all tooling is the correct and is being used properly to protect people and property.
  • Ensure that no team member performs any maintenance, repair, or alteration they are not certified, authorized or comfortable in performing.
  • Ensuring that team members maintain proper housekeeping for a clean, neat, safe and professional working environment.
  • Serve as a mentor to all team members, led with good integrity and positive intentions.
  • Keep all project metrics posted and Job-box whiteboards up to date for crews to stay current on tasks, milestones and goals.
  • Hold daily morning briefings with crews for open communication of needs, wants and milestones.
  • Ensure that all projects are setup with proper ladders, platforms and lifts to protect people and property; this is to be monitored throughout the day and correct any unsafe act on the spot
  • At all times throughout the day monitoring the crew for safe practices to protect customer’s property from damage, and at the end of the shift direct technicians to store the property in a safe secure way.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job requirements

Top candidates will possess excellent organizational skills and attention to details. They will also be capable of managing a team with both experienced technicians and mentor junior technician with a calm demeanor.

 Other requirements include:

  • Must be able to work various shifts and overtime as directed
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in corporate aircraft painting
  • Previous leadership and supervisory experience preferred
  • Possess excellent mechanical aptitude and a desire to initiate improvements with in defined boundaries
